Cup delight for TVMK

Members

The list of Estonian clubs who will compete in Europe in 2003/04 is complete after the latest set of games.

Dramatic games
Flora eliminated cup holders FC Levadia Tallinn after a penalty shootout while TVMK earned a 4-3 aggregate win against JK Trans Narva despite playing with ten men for 50 minutes of the game. The final will be held on 27 May at Tallinn's Kadriorg Stadium.

Superb football
Having won the first leg 2-1, Flora were pegged back by some superb flowing football from Levadia. The home side took the lead through Andrus Mitt after 14 minutes as he beat Flora goalkeeper Martin Kaalma from a good Pavel Apalinski pass.

Third goal
The scores were level on the night four minutes later as Tor Henning Hamre scored his third goal of the tie, sending an accurate shot past Janno Hermanson from twelve metres.

Stinging drive
However, 18-year-old midfield player Konstantin Vassiljev restored Levadia's lead after 32 minutes with a stinging left-footed drive, and despite Flora's best efforts, the game ended with a 2-1 win for Levadia and a 3-3 aggregate draw.

Shootout hero
With neither side scoring in extra time, Kaalma was the hero for Flora in the penalty shoot-out saving Indro Olumets' effort from the spot. With all of the other kicks successfully converted, Erko Saviauk's penalty put Flora in the final.

Early lead
Having drawn 2-2 at home in the first leg, TVMK surprisingly win 2-1 in Narva in the other semi-final second leg. Andrei Krõlov opened the scoring after two minutes and Anton Paitsev doubled the visitors advantage after 32 minutes.

TVMK hold on
However, Ingemar Teever's dismissal put the pressure on TVMK for the final 50 minutes of the game, but although Trans striker Maksim Gruznov pulled a goal back, the hosts could not find the second goal to force extra time.

European picture
The results mean that the list of Estonian clubs who will compete in Europe in 2003/04 is now complete. Since Flora have qualified for the UEFA Champions League as 2002 title winners, runners-up FC Levadia Maardu and TVMK will now enter the UEFA Cup. Trans will play in the UEFA Intertoto Cup.
