Motyka loses Garbarnia seat

Members

Garbarnia Szczakowianka Jaworzno have sacked coach Marek Motyka as they bid to stay in Poland's top flight.

Relegation trouble
The move follows Wednesday's 5-0 league defeat by KS Groclin-Dyskob Grodzisk Wielkop, which left Garbarnia fourth from bottom of the Ekstraklasa and facing a possible relegation play-off.

Summer appointment
Garbarnia director Jerzy Frenkiel said: "His [Motyka's] assistant Miroslaw Stadler has taken over in a temporary capacity." Motyka, 45, was appointed by the newly promoted club last summer, having previously worked as reserve-team manager at Wisla Kraków.

Transfer activity
Despite a number of big-name signings in goalkeeper Andrzej Bledzewski, midfield player Ryszrad Czerwiec, and forwards Marek Kubisz and Maciej Bykowski, the team have struggled.

Narrow margin
Garbarnia are currently 13th in the 16-club top division. They are above the relegation zone only because their goal difference is better than KS Ruch Chorzów's, and will take part in promotion/relegation play-offs if their position does not improve.

Possible replacement
Garbarnia, who reached the Ekstraklasa by beating RKS Radomsko in a play-off last season, have reportedly offered the coach's job to Albin Mikulski. But with three games to go, it remains to be seen whether they will appoint a successor between now and the end of the campaign.
