Hesp in Roosendaal agreement

Members

Danny Hesp is to sign a three-year contract with RBC Roosendaal after opting to leave NEC Nijmegen.

Deal refused
Hesp, 33, is out of contract this summer, and previously turned down a one-year deal offer from NEC. The defender opted to stay in the Netherlands with Roosendaal, despite approaches from Scottish Premier League side Dunfermline Athletic FC and German 1. Bundesliga club VfL Bochum 1848.

'Never been about money'
After meeting with Roosendaal earlier this week, Hesp reveals his intention to move. He said: "We will have an agreement. Things have been said but it has never been about money, it is all about being appreciated. I lead the side at NEC and they gave me a lower offer. I will not take that."

Wide experience
Roosendaal general manager Paul van der Kraan confirmed the deal, saying: "On Monday we will iron out some minor details, but that will be not a problem." Hesp joined NEC six year ago from AZ Alkmaar, having previously had spells with AFC Ajax, SC Heerenveen, TOP Oss and Roda JC and played 373 senior matches.

Third signing
NEC currently lie in the final UEFA Cup position, fifth, with two games left. Meanwhile, Hesp's new club are 13th, having ensured their top-flight status last weekend despite a 2-0 home defeat by NEC. Hesp is Roosendaal's third signing for next season, following the arrival of Sidney Lammens from KVC Westerlo and the permanent purchase of RSC Anderlecht's Melvin Fleur.
