Article body
A late goal from Armen Petikyan gave FC MIKA a 1-0 win against FC Banants in the Armenian Cup final yesterday.
Free-kick winner
With just two minutes left to play, the 31-year-old Armenia international defender struck a free-kick into the net from 22 metres out to give his side their third Cup success in the past four seasons. MIKA defeated FC Zvartnots AAL 2-1 in the 2000 final, before retaining their trophy with a 4-3 penalty shoot-out success against FC Ararat Yerevan a year later after the match had finished 1-1.
Banants bonus
Despite the win, however, MIKA will not play in Europe next season, as the club have not yet completed a three-year ban from all continental competition having been found guilty of attempting to bribe a referee in a UEFA Cup match two years ago. Banants will take their play in the UEFA Cup, having finished third in the Armenian Premier League last season.
