Brøndby IF and FC Midtjylland, for the first time, won through to the Danish Cup final on Thursday night.

Brøndby IF won through to their sixth Danish Cup final in 15 years on Thursday by beating Aalborg BK 3-1 on the night and 4-1 on aggregate. Their opponents will be first-time finalists FC Midtjylland, after they accounted for Viborg FF 3-2 on aggregate.

Powerful opener
Brøndby, the league leaders, won the first leg at home 1-0 but AaB were back on terms inside five minutes as Kasper Risgård scored with a fierce drive. The goal provided the cue for Michael Laudrup's side to up the tempo and they equalised six minutes later when Mattias Jonson headed in Mads Jørgensen's corner.

Jonson caps it
Injuries to defensive duo Diego Tur and Rasmus Würtz late in the first half hardly helped AaB's cause and they were never able to recover after Brøndby captain Per Nielse put his side 2-1 ahead just before the break. Jonson's second goal of the night ensured Brøndby's safe passage.

Dramatic win
The other semi-final second leg was far more dramatic as Midtjylland recovered from 2-0 down at half-time to win 3-2 and progress on the same aggregate score. First-half goals from Thomas Tengstedt and Thomas Frandsen seemed to be sending Viborg through to the 29 May Parken stadium final, but Søren Skriver, Kristian Bak Nielsen and substitute Christian Magleby scored to end their dream.
