Fenerbahçe SK missed out on a place in Europe after a 1-1 draw away to relegated Göztepe on the final day of the Turkish Super League season.
Fenerbahçe falter
Despite taking the lead through Sergei Rebrov's penalty after 16 minutes, the away side were pegged back nine minutes into the second half thanks to Cem Baki's powerful shot, and the away side had defender Erman Yildirim sent off three minutes from time.
Malatyaspor take fifth
Malatyaspor's 2-0 away win at Trabzonspor helped them secure fifth position and a place in the UEFA Cup. Goals in either half from Sertan Eser and Mithat Yavas secured the all-important victory.
Altay relegated
At the other end of the table, Altay GK were relegated after a goalless draw at Istanbulspor AS. Bursaspor took full advantage to move above Altay and out of the relegation zone with a 3-1 win at home to third-placed Gençlerbirligi SK. The league's top scorer Okan Yilmaz scored twice, although Mustafa Gürsel pulled a goal back ten minutes from time to ensure a frantic finale to the match, but Bursaspor's Ender Alkan scored a third in added time to make the match safe.
Elazigspor stay up
Elazigspor also avoided demotion with a 2-1 win at Diyarbakirsporm, taking the lead three minutes past the hour through Eren Kurnaz. Three minutes later, Roberto da Silva made it 2-0 from Erhan Namli's pass, and the away side held on despite Murat Hacioglu's strike five minutes later.
Final-day victory
Champions Besiktas JK ended the season with an entertaining 4-3 win at Samsunspor, with Ali Cansun Begeçarslan scoring twice in the first half and Sinan Ertan replying for the home side. It was 3-1 seven minutes into the second half as Besiktas captain Tayfur Havutçu found the target, but Samsunspor pulled another goal back on 68 minutes with Hakki Das' 25-metre free-kick. Two minutes later Niyazi Güney scored Besiktas's fourth goal, although Sinan converted a penalty six minutes later to keep the home team's hopes alive until the final whistle.
Champions League place
Galatasaray SK also finished with a win, defeating Gaziantepspor 2-1 thanks to goals from Mehmet Polat and Suat Kaya in the last match played at Galatasaray's Ali Sami Yen Stadium for two years as the ground undergoes renovation. The win meant Galatasaray finished in second place and will play in next season's UEFA Champions League, while Gaziantepspor claimed fourth place and will play in the UEFA Cup.
Away win
Elsewhere, Adanspor AS won 2-1 at relegated Kocaelispor, while MKE Ankaragücü drew 1-1 with Denizlispor.
