Giuseppe Signori will leave Bologna FC this summer after failing to agree a new contract.
Free agent
The former Italian international will walk away from the Dall'Ara stadium a free agent after talks today ended in stalemate. The 35-year-old has finished top scorer in four of his five seasons since joining from Sampdoria UC, scoring 12 goals this campaign as Bologna finished eleventh in Serie A.
Cutting costs
Bologna are understood to be trying to cut their expenditure on salaries and Signori said: "They have just refused my proposal. They have not even tried to make me an offer. It means they really wanted to get rid of me.
'Five wonderful seasons'
"I was hoping to reach an agreement until the last minute and now I'm obviously sad. It's the first time in my career that I find myself without a club. However, I have spent five wonderful seasons with Bologna and I wish them all the best for the future.
No offers
"When I retire from football I will return to live in this beautiful town. I don't know where I will play next season but I still haven't received any offers from Serie A clubs and I don't want to play in the lower divisions. To go abroad would also be difficult because I have a wife and three kids. We will have to take this decision together."
International career
Signori, nicknamed 'Beppegol', has scored 182 goals in Serie A - including 61 in 117 matches for Bologna - during a career which has also included spells at Foggia Calcio and S.S. Lazio. He played 28 times for Italy and was in the side that finished runners-up at the 1994 FIFA World Cup.
