Valur Reykjavík and Fylkir still lead the way in the Premier League with two wins from their opening two games.

Top-flight newcomers Valur Reykjavík and cup holders Fylkir still lead the way in the Icelandic Premier League with two wins from their opening two games.

Convincing win
Valur enjoyed a convincing 4-1 win against ÍBV Vestmannæyjar on Saturday. Johann Hreidarsson opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 31st minute. IBV were also awarded a penalty a minute later but goalkeeper Olafur Thor Gunnarsson saved Gunnar Hreidar Thorvaldsson's effort.

Hreidarsson at the double
Hreidarsson's second goal in the 51st minute extended the Reykjavik team's lead before Tom Bett got a goal back for IBV. Defender Armann Smari Björnsson restored Valur's two-goal advantage before Ian Jeff's own goal made it 4-1. However, Valur's fans are still mindful that the club won their first two games of the 2001 season - and were still relegated.

Fylkir win
Meanwhile, on Monday, Fylkir beat Grindavík 2-0 thanks to goals from defender Gunnar Thor Petursson, his first in 73 games, and Haukur Ingi Gudnason. Grindavík are still without a single point so far this season.

Akureyri held
KA Akureyri were held 0-0 by FH Hafnarfjördur, who had goalkeeper Dadi Larusson to thank for several outstanding saves.  ÍA Akranes overcame newcomers Thróttur Reykjavik 3-1 with strikes from Stefan Thor Thordarson, Palmi Haraldsson and Gardar Gunnlaugsson, whose effort flew in from 30 metres. Dane Sören Hermansen replied for Thróttur from the penalty spot.

Champions denied
On Sunday evening reigning champions KR Reykjavík visited Fram Reykjavík at the National stadium in a game that ended 1-1. After a dull first half, Veigar Pall Gunnarsson put KR ahead in the 76th minute, finishing well from Bjarki Gunnlaugsson's astute pass.

First point
In the 91st minute, just as KR fans were getting ready to celebrate, Fram captain Agust Gylfason curled a free-kick past the KR wall and into the goal to earn Fram their first point of the season and leave the champions among a group of three teams on four points in mid-table.
