Old boy strikes
Goals from Latvian international Maris Verpakovskis on 23 minutes and former Gauja player Gatis Kalninsh midway through the second half wrapped up the victory for the current leaders.
Foreign affair
FK Ventspilis remained hot on the heels of Skonto with a comprehensive 4-0 home win against newcomers RKB-Arma Riga. All four goals were scored by foreign players with Russian midfield player Andrei Agofonov scoring twice in the first ten minutes - the first a penalty - before Slovakian forward Bronislav Jashurek and Lithuanian midfield player Dejmantas Bichka added second-half strikes.
Prolific Dobrecovs
FHK Liepajas Metalurgs came away from FK Riga with a 3-1 victory. Edijs Danilovs' opener was cancelled out by Rolands Krjauklis but Girts Karlsons ensured Metalurgs had a 2-1 advantage at half-time. Forward Viktors Dobrecovs made it 3-1 with his ninth goal of the season eleven minutes after the break.
Boruns on the spot
Elsewhere, FC Dinaburg beat FK Auda Riga 1-0, the only goal scored by Aleksejs Boruns from the penalty spot on 38 minutes.
