Hjalte Bo Nørgaard's first ever goal helped FC København beat Brøndby IF and move within a win of the title.
Article body
FC København are the new favourites to win the Danish championship after dramatically defeating former leaders 1-0 Brøndby IF in yesterday's penultimate round of matches.
Priceless win
Brøndby went into their home fixture a point ahead of their main rivals, meaning a win would see them end the Superliga season as champions irrespective of results in Sunday's final games. However, a goal three minutes into added time from 22-year-old substitute Hjalte Bo Nørgaard gave FCK a priceless victory which means they will reclaim the title with a home victory against AGF Århus, while Brøndby must beat Silkeborg IF away and hope for a shock in the capital.
Capacity crowd
The Brøndby stadium was full to its 31,000 capacity for the fixture, and the home fans were soon showing signs of nerves as FCK made the early running. Despite dominating possession, though, it was Brøndby who created the best chance of the opening 45 minutes, defender Per Nielsen going close as half-time beckoned. Brøndby also fashioned the clearest opening of the second period, Swedish international Mattais Jonsson shooting wide from five metres.
First goal
Although Peter Nielsen and Peter Møller were on the end of half-chances for the visitors, the game appeared to be heading for a draw until Bo Nørgaard scored his first top-flight goal. Thomas Røll started the move, passing to Ole Tobiassen on the right whose centre was turned in by Nørgaard to cue wild celebrations among visiting supporters.
Dream season
FCK may be heading for the title, and a place in the UEFA Champions League, but Farum can lay claim to being the team of the season. Their debut campaign in the Superliga has been a dream one, and they will qualify for the UEFA Cup by securing third place with a weekend victory after defeating Akademisk Boldklub 2-1. The home side took the lead through Sammy Youssouf but two goals from Thomas Andreasen sealed Farum's 15th victory of the season.
All to play for
Esbjerg fB were previously in third, but they slipped a place after drawing 1-1 at AGF in front of 16,000 fans. Jess Thorup opened the scoring for EfB in the 47th minute before Peter Graulund equalised to guarantee top-flight football at the Århus stadium next season. Going into the final round, Farum have 48 points, EfB 46 and Odense BK 45 after relegating Silkeborg with a 4-3 home victory inspired by Mwape Miti's hat-trick.
Hopes dashed
FC Midtjylland's European hopes were dashed by a 1-0 loss at Aalborg BK, for whom Thomas Augustinussen headed the winning goal two minutes from time. The day's final match saw Viborg FF thrash relegated Køge BK 6-1.
