FC Dynamo Kyiv beat FC Arsenal Kyiv as fellow hopefuls FC Shakhtar Donetsk drew at FC Tavriya Simferopol.

FC Dynamo Kyiv are expected to win their tenth Ukrainian title on Wednesday after they beat FC Arsenal Kyiv in the capital derby and fellow hopefuls FC Shakhtar Donetsk drew at FC Tavriya Simferopol in the penultimate round of matches.

Leading scorer
Dynamo's leading scorer, Maxim Shatskikh, took his tally this season to 20 goals when he scored after 73 minutes to settle a tense derby against Arsenal. Dynamo received further cheer when they learned that Shakhtar had drawn 3-3 at the Lokomotiv stadium. The Donetsk club had fought back from 2-0 down to take a 3-2 lead, only to relinquish it with seven minutes remaining.

Ten-goal margin
Shakhtar are now relying on a miraculous set of results if they are to retain their title. In order to do so they would need to beat Arsenal by a ten-goal margin and hope that Dynamo lost against FC Metalist Kharkiv, the bottom club in the 16-team table.

UEFA Cup chase
Three teams remain in contention for two UEFA Cup berths heading into the final matches of the season. FC Metalurh Donetsk reached 57 points by beating FC Olexandria 1-0, leapfrogging Arsenal in the process and climbing to third.

Level on points
FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk remain fifth but moved level on points with Arsenal by beating FC Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih 3-0. Wednesday's matches see Metalurh take on FC Obolon Kyiv and Dnipro challenging FC Volyn Lutsk.

Two relegated
Meanwhile, FC Metalurh Zaporizhya are relegated along with Metalist - who beat Volyn 3-1 - after drawing 1-1 against FC Karpaty Lviv. FC Illichivets Mariupil beat Obolon 2-1 and the day's remaining game ended in a 2-2 draw between FC Chornomorets Odesa and FC Vorskla Poltava.
