Coach Thierry Goudet has extended his contract at Le Mans UC 72 until 2006.
Historic achievement
Goudet guided the French side to promotion to Ligue 1 for the first time in their history as Le Mans finished second in Ligue 2 behind Toulouse FC. Goudet took over at Le Mans during the 2001/02 season and signed a contract until 2005, but that has now been extended by a further year.
Legarda elected
Meanwhile, Henri Legarda, a successful local businessman, has been appointed as Le Mans' new chairman. Legarda has been part of the club's management since 1995, dealing mainly with financial issues, and was elected to head a new board on Thursday by shareholders.
Peyramayou retires
The election results prompted former chairman Noël Peyramayou to announce his retirement from the club. Legarda's first action in his new role was to reward Goudet's achievement with a new contract.
