Lithuania round-up: Ekranas extend lead

Members

FK Ekranas won 2-0 at FK Sviesa to go four points clear at the top of the First Division.

Goal in each half
Goals from Lithuanian Under-21 internationals Egidijus Majus and Vitalijus Kavaliauskas secured the points for the visitors. Defender Majus opened the scoring on 11 minutes, with striker Kavaliauskas sealing the victory in the closing seconds. Despite the result, though, Ekranas coach Virginijus Liubsys admitted his team had been "lucky". "The team looked tired and we did not play well," he said.

Six-goal thriller
Meanwhile, second-placed FBK Kaunas dropped points as they were held 3-3 at home against FK Suduva. The away team led three times through Andrius Brazauskas, Saulius Butkus and Giedrius Klevinskas, but Kaunas responded with goals from Audrius Slekys, Giedrius Barevicius and Darius Gvildys, the latter two coming in a frantic 20-minute spell in the second half. The match was watched by Sergei Borovski, the Belarussian coach who will take charge of Kaunas in the near future.

Level pegging
Elsewhere, FK Atlantas won 2-1 at home to FK Zalgiris Vilnius. Vidas Dancenko and Dainius Zernyas were both on target for last season's league runners-up before Zalgiris registered through Dainius Saulenas late in the second period. The win kept Atlantas third in the table, above FK Vetra on goal difference. Vetra also claimed maximum points, winning 1-0 at SFK Sakalas. Midfield player Saulius Kijanskas struck the only goal on 36 minutes.
