One-year deal
Max, 34, has signed a one-year deal with Hansa with the option of a second year. Capped once by Germany, he was the Bundesliga's top scorer in 2000 and shared the honour two years later with Marcio Amoroso.
Impressive record
A former FC Schalke 04 and VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach player, he has scored 106 goals in 363 top-flight appearances and collected a UEFA Cup winners' medal during his time with Schalke. He becomes Hansa's fourth signing for next season after Razundara Tjikuzu, Thomas Schultz and Gabriel Melkam.
