Iceland round-up: KR take over at the top

KR Reykjavík moved to the top of the Landsbankadeildin table with a 2-1 win at home to Valur Reykjavík on Monday.

Leaders beaten
Previous leaders Fylkir missed the chance to regain the league leadership on Wednesday as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Thróttur Reykjavík, meaning KR maintained a one-point lead at the top.

Unexpected lead
Initially, Valur defended solidly and frustrated the home team, before taking the lead against the run of play five minutes past the hour. However, KR drew level ten minutes later through Thorhallur Hinriksson and sealed all three points ten minutes from time as striker Veigar Pall Gunnarsson scored the winning goal.

Fylkir fight back
Fylkir also controlled the match away to Thróttur but fell behind after 33 minutes as Björgolfur Takefusa found the net. Finnur Kolbeinsson's 75th-minute equaliser seemed to have earned the visitors a draw, only for Sören Hermansen to score a winning goal four minutes into injury time.

Comfortable victory
ÍBV Vestmannæyjar moved into third place with a resounding 5-0 win at home to Fram Reykjavík, with all the goals coming in the final 23 minutes of the match. Gunnar Heidar Thorvaldsson scored three times to take his total for the season to seven from five league matches. Fram remained bottom of the table following their third defeat of the season.

Away draw
Elsewhere, KA Akureyri earned a 1-1 draw away to ÍA Akranes, taking the lead through Palmi Rafn Palmason, who rounded off a swift counterattack in the 59th minute. However, Gudjon H. Sveinsson earned the home side a point, converting a pass from Palmi Haraldsson. Meanwhile, goals from Allan Borgvardt and Hermann Albertsson helped FH Hafnarfjördur to a 2-1 win at home to Grindavík, whose only goal came from Sinisa Kekic.
