High fives as Samp strengthen

Members

Sampdoria UC have signed five players, including Italian international Cristiano Doni.

Goalscoring midfield player
Doni, 30, arrives with a reputation as a goalscoring midfield player despite a disappointing campaign which ended in relegation for Atalanta. He has scored 33 times in the past three seasons and was in Italy's squad at last summer's FIFA World Cup.

Cerezo connection
While the terms of Doni's transfer are not yet known, Yanagisawa joins on a year's loan from Antlers, a club coached by former Brazil defender Toninho Cerezo, a member of Samp's 1991 title-winning team.

Goal against Italy
The 26-year-old can play either as a striker or on the wing and scored a memorable goal against Italy when the sides met in Saitama in November 2001. Ironically, it was Doni who registered for the Azzurri in that 1-1 draw.

Back in top flight
The Genoa club, who are back in the top flight after a four-year absence, have also announced three other loan signings, including Doni's former Atalanta team-mate Massimo Donati. The 22-year-old midfield player joins on loan from AC Milan, together with another midfield player, Luca Antonini. Right-back Aimo Stefano Diana, meanwhile, arrives from Parma AC.
