FSM fine
The Macedonian Football Union (FSM) has also been fined €6,500 for disturbances involving its team during the same match, which Turkey won 3-2.
Track record
At its meeting at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland, the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body took account of the TFF's recent track record on disciplinary matters, and expressed its concern over what the body described as "the improper conduct of the local supporters and the potential risk that occurred to the match participants [players and officials]".
Available evidence
"The Control and Disciplinary Body has considered all of the available evidence, and the circumstances surrounding the specific incidents concerned," said UEFA communications and public affairs director Mike Lee. "Taking all of this into account and the track record of the Turkish FA, they concluded that a substantial fine was appropriate. It has also been made clear that such incidents must not occur in the future."
Previous fines
The TFF was fined €7,700 for fireworks-related incidents at the EURO 2004™ qualifier between Turkey and Slovakia last September. The association's other most recent fine was three years previously - €16,000 for firework incidents and a pitch incursion at the EURO 2000™ play-off second leg against the Republic of Ireland in Bursa in November 1999.
Goal celebrations
Meanwhile, the fine handed down to F.Y.R. Macedonia arose from the team's goal celebrations, which the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body said had contributed to the provocation of Turkish supporters. Both associations have until 24.00 CET on Monday 7 July to lodge an appeal against the Control and Disciplinary Body's decisions.
