Bohemian FC returned to form in spectacular fashion with a 5-1 victory against Waterford United FC.

Defending champions Bohemian FC returned to form in spectacular fashion this week with a 5-1 victory against Waterford United FC at Dalymount Park in the latest round of Premier League games.

Good preparation
Stephen Kenny's side had only won once in their previous seven games, but this victory sets up them nicely for their UEFA Champions League qualifier against FC BATE Borisov of Belarus on Wednesday.

Crowe treble
Daryl Murphy put the visitors ahead after 24 minutes, but Irish Under-21 international defender Jason McGuinness equalised for Bohemians on the stroke of half-time. Robbie Doyle put Bohs in front nine minutes into the second half and Glen Crowe then added a quickfire hat-trick to seal an emphatic victory.

Disappointing draw
League leaders Shelbourne FC remain top of the table despite a disappointing 0-0 draw with Saint Patrick-s Athletic FC at Richmond Park. The Dublin rivals struggled to find any rhythm in a game devoid of goalmouth action.

Similar story
It was a similar story at Flancare Park, where Longford Town FC and Drogheda United FC played out a scoreless draw. Visiting Drogheda had the best of the possession, but could not find the crucial goal.

Dempsey sacking
Earlier in the week, Drogheda sacked midfield player Mark Dempsey for a breach of contract; an action that led to his playing colleagues threatening to go on strike. Further developments are expected over the next few days.

UCD draw
In the weekend's other game, bottom club University College Dublin FC and Derry City FC drew 1-1 at Belfield Park. Alan Cawley gave UCD the lead after 29 minutes, but Liam Coyle equalised for the Brandywell side within three minutes of the restart.

FAI Cup draw
Elsewhere this week, the second round draw for the FAI Cup threw up some exciting ties, with the top four clubs in the current Premier Division table coming up against each other. Cork City FC will host Shelbourne at Turners Cross, while St Patrick’s face Shamrock Rovers FC at Richmond Park. The ties will take place during the week ending 27 July.
