SBV Vitesse have signed Rangers FC defender Bert Konterman but Marian Zeman has left the club.
New deal
Konterman signed a two-year deal with the Eredivisie side after Rangers agreed to cancel the last year of his contract. The 32-year-old has stepped in to replace Dejan Stefanovic who has left the Dutch club to join English Premiership newcomers Portsmouth FC.
For love
"Bert really wants to play football," said Vitesse technical manager Jan Streuer. "If he had only wanted money, he would have stayed in Glasgow, where he still had a year to run on his contract." Konterman had been at Rangers since 2000 when he was signed from Feyenoord by coach Dick Advocaat.
Free transfer
While Konterman comes in, Slovakian defender Marian Zeman has left the club to join Portugal's SC Beira-Mar. The 29-year-old was out of contract at Vitesse after a season ruined by injury.
Portuguese sun
"I had several offers, mainly from Germany, but I prefer Portugal, and not only for the weather," said the former ŠK Slovan Bratislava player. "The modern stadiums, where [UEFA] EURO 2004™ will be played, and the club's great ambition were other major factors."
