Anti-racist guide a 'significant step'

Anti racism

Leading campaigners against racism in football have welcomed UEFA's Guide to Good Practice.

Leading campaigners in the fight to kick racism out of football have described UEFA's newly-published Guide to Good Practice as a significant step in the ongoing drive to eliminate racism from the sport.

Advice and recommendations
The guide, which offers a comprehensive overview of anti-racist activities within the football family and offers wide-ranging advice and recommendations on how to tackle such conduct, was launched by European football's governing body on Friday.

Close partnership
UEFA has worked together with the pan-European Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) network to produce the guide, the latest step in the continuing close partnership between the two bodies.

Fight against racism
Piara Powar, Director of Kick It Out, a leading member of the FARE network, said: "The guide is amongst the most comprehensive European documents outlining anti-racist action in any area of activity. It is welcomed as significant step in the fight against racism in European football.

Practical priorities
"The past two seasons have thrown up widespread incidents of racism across Europe - the guide sets out clear practical priorities for campaigning that no club, player or fan group can afford to ignore," he added. "The test of European football's commitment to the issue will be improved fan behaviour inside stadia and evidence of institutional equality."
