Bolton Wanderers FC forward Youri Djorkaeff could be sidelined for up to six weeks after suffering a suspected fractured cheekbone.
Collision with defender
The former French international suffered the injury on Tuesday in Malta after colliding with Birkirkara FC defender Lucien Dronca while scoring Bolton's second goal in a pre-season victory over the Maltese side. Bolton manager Sam Allardyce is now resigned to losing one of his key players for the start of the season.
Fresh start for Fresnedoso
In Spain, former Club Atlético de Madrid midfield player Roberto Fresnedoso has moved to newly promoted Real Murcia CF on a one-year contract. Fresnedoso helped Atlético win the league and cup double in 1995/96 and spent last season on loan at second division US Salamanca.
Ghodhbane Turkey bound
Turkish Super League side Diyarbakirspor have signed Tunisian international midfield player Kaïs Ghodhbane from Etoile Sportive du Sahel. The 27-year-old Ghodhbane, who represented his country in the 1998 and 2002 FIFA World Cups, has signed a one-year contract with an option for a further year.
Hertha signing
Hertha BSC Berlin have signed Danish Under 21 international Dennis Cagara. The 18-year-old will join the Bundesliga side from Brøndby IF on a four-and-a-half year contract which will commence on 1 January 2004.
Powell ankle injury
Norwegian club Lillestrøm SK will be without striker Magnus Powell for at least eight weeks after the Swede sustained a serious ankle injury. Powell was carried off the pitch during the away match against Bodø/Glimt on Sunday and X-rays have since revealed he will not be in action again before September.
'Severe blow'
"This is a severe blow, I am beginning to get tired of injuries now," said the 28-year-old. Lillestrøm coach Arne Erlandsen added: "Powell's injury is very sad for us. We can not afford to buy a replacement."
