Slovakia joins anti-racism drive

Members

The 'We Are People' event promotes the message that racism has no place in football.

'We Are People'
The Slovak Football Association answered UEFA's call for its member associations to increase their anti-racist activities by organising a sports and social event under the title 'We Are People'. The accompanying football match featured appearances by Slovakia's national-team coach and 1976 UEFA European champion Ladislav Jurkemik, as well as association general secretary Dušan Tittel.

Minister kicks off
The honorary kick-off of the match was carried out by the Slovak Republic foreign affairs minister Eduard Kukan, and international referee Vladimir Hrinak took charge of the game. Ambassadors from numerous countries were invited, and the event gave spectators the chance to taste various exotic dishes and watch a fashion show of clothes from across the world, as well as to listen to a music concert.

Long-term fight
'We Are People' was the second such event to be held in Slovakia. "We are certain that the event will continue in future years," said a spokesman for the association. "The fight against racism is a long-term matter, and it is necessary to promote this issue among young people as a first priority."
