TSV 1860 München's Chinese international Jiayi Shao is out until the new year with knee ligament damage.

Studs caught
According to the German club's medical team, the 23-year-old will be sidelined for at least five months. Shao tore a cruciate ligament in his left knee when his studs caught in the turf during a training session.

'Young guns'
The player also sustained cartilage damage in the incident and his absence will be a blow to 1860 coach Falko Götz. "Shao is one of our young guns and is a player with a good future ahead of him," Götz said.

Injury curse
The Chinese is the sixth player in the Bundesliga suffering from a cruciate ligament injury. BV Borussia Dortmund have Evanilson, Torsten Frings and Guy Demel sidelined, while 1. FC Kaiserslautern's Hany Ramzy and FC Schalke 04's Jörg Böhme both face long lay-offs for the same reason.

Nowotny back
However, Bayer 04 Leverkusen have welcomed German international defender Jens Nowotny back to training after he recovered from tearing the same cruciate ligaments twice within a year.
