Metz misfortune
FC Metz's run of misfortune continued with the news that new signing Hakim Saci will be out for three months with a thigh injury. The French club's doctor, Marcel Jacob, confirmed that the Algerian forward requires six weeks complete rest followed by another six weeks training before he can return to action.

Goalscoring debut
Saci has only been at Metz for two weeks after joining from En Avant Guingamp and scored on his debut in a 2-0 win at SC Bastia. The news comes just 24 hours after it emerged that midfield player Mario Espartero would be sidelined for six months with a serious knee injury.

Schemmel to Portsmouth
Portsmouth FC have recruited former Metz defender Sebastien Schemmel from West Ham United FC. The Frenchman, who arrives on a free transfer, is reunited at Fratton Park with former West Ham manager Harry Redknapp.

Boro buy Nash
Middlesbrough FC have landed goalkeeper Carlo Nash from Manchester City FC for a nominal fee. The 29-year-old trained with his new team-mates on Thursday morning and replaces Mark Crossley, who joined Fulham FC in a €700,000 deal.

Double fillip
Another Premiership team, Charlton Athletic FC have handed short-term contracts to former English and Portuguese Under-21 internationals, Stephen Hughes and Sergio Leite. Midfield player Hughes, a 26-year-old Arsenal FC old boy, and 24-year-old goalkeeper Leite impressed in training with the London club.

Pavlovic signs for Slovan
ŠK Slovan Bratislava have signed Slovenian international Zoran Pavlovic from Ukrainian Premier League side FC Vorskla Poltava. The 27-year-old midfield player, who has won 25 caps for his country, has played previously for NK Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia and Austrian sides FK Austria Wien and SV Austria Salzburg.
