Mazzone back at Bologna

Members

Bologna FC have confirmed Carlo Mazzone as their new coach after parting company with Francesco Guidolin.

Mutual decision
The Serie A club's owner, Giuseppe Frascara, said the decision to terminate Guidolin's contract had been a mutual one. The announcement came in the wake of the sale of influential defender Marcello Castellini to Parma AC and ahead of the possible departure of Argentinian striker Julio Cruz for Internazionale FC.

Buso replacement
Guidolin had joined the club as a replacement for Sergio Buso in 1999 and helped Bologna achieve mid-table security in his four seasons at the Dall'Ara stadium - with a highest league placing of seventh in 2001/02. His contract was due to expire in 2005.

Mazzone back
Fans' favourite Mazzone is a former Bologna coach, having previously led the club from 1985-86 and from 1998-99. The 66-year-old, the oldest coach working in Serie A, resigned from Brescia Calcio in June.
