Charleroi to play on

Members

R. Charleroi SC can continue playing after clearing debts which threatened their top-flight existence.

Major input
It was thought that the club owed €1.6m, but a major financial input from Suniland, part of the Caudfontaine company owned by Charleroi chairman Abbas Bayat, saw them pay €2.3m to the RSZ.

Threat removed
There was more good news for the embattled club as the company also promised to pay off any debts which arise in the next three years. The Zebras hope their changing fortunes will lead more companies to invest in the club, in return for a place on the board.

Fresh impetus
Charleroi have picked up just a point from their first three Belgian First Division games, yet have received fresh impetus ahead of their 30 August fixture against RAA Louviéroise.
