Last season's DFB Pokal finalists, 1. FC Kaiserslautern, were first-round casualties this time round.

Last season's German Cup runners-up 1.FC Kaiserslautern were sensationally knocked out of this year's tournament at the first hurdle, losing 4-1 against lower-league outfit Eintracht Braunschweig at the weekend.

Bochum fall
The first round of the DFB-Pokal also claimed VfL Bochum 1848 as 2-1 victims of second division SV Jahn Regensburg on Saturday - but there were no problems for the big clubs on Sunday.

Comfortable wins
TSV 1860 München led the way with a 5-1 win at Schwarz-Weiss Rehden and there were comfortable 3-0 away wins against minor teams for Hannover 96, VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach and BV Borussia Dortmund. FC Hansa Rostock came closest to being humbled, requiring penalties to defeat VfL Osnabrück after extra time finished goalless.

Köln survive
Only an 89th-minute equaliser from Dirk Lottner spared 1. FC Köln a defeat at Oberneuland Bremen. The top-flight team eventually won 5-2 after extra time. Holders FC Bayern München had no such problems, with Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz scoring a hat-trick in a 5-0 win against Borussia Neunkirchen. Hertha BSC Berlin defeated Reutlingen 6-1.

Emphatic victory
Second division side Wacker Burghausen were the weekend's biggest winners, defeating amateurs TSV Gerbrunn 14-0.
