Turkey round-up: Besiktas take the reins

Members

Besiktas JK went top of the Turkish Super League with a 3-0 defeat of MKE Ankaragücü.

Sergen security
Tümer Metin opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute but the home team were forced to wait until deep into the second half before the result began to look safe, Sergen Yalçin eventually doubling the lead in the 72nd minute.

Red card
Sinan Kaloglu rounded off the scoreline in the stoppage time in a match in which Ankaragücü's Egyptian striker Ramadan Ragap was dismissed after two bookings.

No advantage
Istanbulspor's 3-1 defeat of Akçaabat Sebatspor on Saturday kept Aykut Kocaman's side in contention in second place. It was Sebatspor's first home game of the campaign but the advantage amounted to nothing as Istanbulspor came good after the break, scoring three times.

Deserved win
Former Real Madrid CF midfield player Elvir Balic broke the deadlock in the 54th minute and although Marek Zajac equalised four minutes later, an own goal from Abdurrahman Çak, plus a third from Mehmet Yozgatli gave the visitors a deserved win.

Point shared
Galatasaray SK had to be content with a point following a 2-2 away draw with Bursaspor. The home side opened the scoring on six minutes through Okan Yilmaz before Brazilian forward Fabio Pinto levelled for the visitors in the 47th minute. Bursaspor scored again through a free-kick from Danut Frasineanu but Galatasaray midfield player Sabri Sariogu rescued a point as the clock ran down.

Big winners
Fenerbahçe SK, meanwhile, impressed in a 7-1 demolition of Elazigspor. Turkish international striker Tuncay Sanli collected four goals, scoring twice in each half while Pierre van Hooijdonk, Marco Aurélio and Serhat Akin were also on target. Effa Owona hit the opener for the visitors – but it was certainly not a sign of things to come.

One goal enough
Trabzonspor overcame Adanaspor by a single goal in Adana, Turkey midfield player Gökdeniz Karadeniz's 64th-minute effort proving the difference in a closely contested encounter.

Özdemir winner
Newly promoted Çaykur Rizespor defeated UEFA Cup contenders Malatyaspor 2-1 in torrential rain. Muhammet Akagündüz gave the away team a 1-0 lead but Rizespor soon recovered and Emmanuel Tetteh levelled early in the second half. Serkan Özdemir slotted the winner ten minutes from the end.

Open accounts
On Sunday, Gençlerbirligi collected their first win of the campaign, overcoming Gaziantepspor with a goal from Souleymane Youla in the 27th minute. Likewise, Samsunspor took their first three points by edging out Denizlispor 2-1 on the back of goals from Musa Aydin and Serkan Aykut. Elsewhere, the promising start of new boys Konyaspor continued as they defeated Diyarbakirspor 3-1.
