Savarov takes over at Wil

'Lack of confidence'
Wil took the decision to sack Andermatt after Saturday's 3-1 defeat against fellow strugglers FC Zürich left them bottom of the table with only two points from seven games. Zürich were previously without a win, and the Wil board announced the next day that they had dismissed Andermatt because of a "lack of confidence".

President explains decision
Club president Roger Bigger added: "All five members of the board support the decision. We and our investors want to reach certain goals in the medium term. Therefore, the sacking of Andermatt makes sense."

March appointment
Andermatt was only appointed in March after the departure of Heinz Peischl for FC St. Gallen, but this season had already seen his team depart the UEFA Intertoto Cup in the third round against FC Nantes Atlantique, having only retained their top-flight status after a successful appeal against the loss of their professional licence.

Compatriots' investment
Savarov takes over at a club who last month received investment from his fellow former Soviet internationals Igor Belanov and Gennadi Perepadenko. He will be assisted by long-time youth coach Hans-Peter Meier.

Nancy spell
A member of the Soviet team in the 1988 UEFA European Championship final, Savarov had previously been in charge of the Under-18 squad at AS Nancy-Lorraine, the club where his playing career ended. His other sides as a player included FC Dynamo Kyiv and Juventus FC.
