Netherlands round-up: Waalwijk rise to summit

Members

RKC Waalwijk defeated FC Zwolle 3-0 on Sunday to go top of the Dutch First Division.

Soetaers opener
On Saturday, AFC Ajax also won their second consecutive match, defeating RBC Roosendaal 1-0 thanks to a 33rd-minute strike from Tom Soetaers, his first goal for his new club. Ronald Koeman's side, who face SK Sturm Graz in a UEFA Champions League qualifier next week, lie second in the standings.

Sibon decider
SC Heerenveen also won 1-0, defeating Feyenoord to go third. Forward Gerald Sibon was the man who made the difference, scoring the only goal in the 19th minute. PSV Eindhoven are fourth after overcoming Willem II Tilburg 6-1 on Saturday. Andre Ooijer gave his team the lead after ten minutes, yet the advantage only lasted until Tarik Sektioui equalised eight minutes later.

Match settled
Dennis Rommedahl, Mark van Bommel and Mateja Kezman all went on to score, however, to settle the game before the interval. Kezman claimed his second shortly after half-time and Korean Park Ji-Sung completed the scoring.

Two goals
NAC Breda recovered from last week's defeat to edge out SBV Vitesse 2-0 courtesy of finely-taken goals from Ronnie Stam and Tamas Peto. ADO Den Haag salvaged a point from their encounter with FC Utrecht three minutes from time when Marcel Pronk popped up to score the leveller in a 1-1 draw. Donny de Groot had put Utrecht ahead midway through the first half.

Early lead
FC Volendam took an early lead against FC Groningen on Sunday, with Eddy Putter and Maurice Buijs both on target in the first 20 minutes – and Dion Esajas steered the match out of the visitors' reach eleven minutes into the second half.

Cristiano show
Brazilian Cristiano collected two goals in Roda JC's 3-1 defeat of NEC Nijmegen, also contested on Sunday. Yannis Anastasiou fired in a third, while Fabian de Freitas struck a late reply for the home team in added time.

Easy victory
On Friday, AZ Alkmaar comfortably defeated FC Twente 3-0. Juha Reini, Robin Nelisse and Ali Elkhattabi were the scorers.
