Germany round-up: Klimowicz leads the way

Diego Klimowicz scored twice on Sunday as VfL Wolfsburg dispatched Hamburger SV 5-1.

Argentinian striker Diego Klimowicz scored twice on Sunday as VfL Wolfsburg bounced back from a heavy defeat by BV Borussia Dortmund last week to despatch Hamburger SV 5-1.

Struggling Hamburg
Hamburg, still without a win, opened the scoring early in the second half through Bosnian midfield player Sergej Barbarez but Klimowicz redressed the balance after the break, equalising in the 50th minute.

Resounding win
Ten minutes later Martin Petrov made it 2-1, before midfield players Sven Mueller and new signing Andrés D'Alessandro, who joined the club from Buenos Aires side CA River Plate this summer, dispelled any doubts about the result. Klimowicz sealed a resounding win with just four minutes to go.

Three off
FC Schalke 04, meanwhile, needed a late effort from Turkish midfield player Hamit Altintop to defeat newly-promoted 1. FC Köln in a match which saw three players dismissed. Schalke's Jochen Seitz and Köln duo Jörg Heinrich and Marius Ebbers were all shown the red card.

Altintop winner
Nigerian striker Victor Agali put the home team ahead in the 42nd minute but Köln levelled six minutes into the second half with a free-kick from Dirk Lottner. Altintop struck the winner in extra time - his third goal this season.

Leverkusen top
On Saturday, two goals from German international striker Oliver Neuville helped Bayer 04 Leverkusen to a 4-0 win against Hannover 96 that kept Klaus Augenthaler's team top of the 1.Bundesliga.

Maximum points
The victory maintained Leverkusen's perfect start to the season, and meant the side have now won all three of their league games and sit at the summit of the table with a maximum nine points, the only side to have a 100 per cent record.

Early advantage
Brazilian forward Franca gave the home side the lead inside the first 90 seconds. It was 2-0 in the ninth minute as Neuville finished off more good work from Franca.

Second-half strikes
Neuville virtually ended the game as a contest six minutes into the second half as he scored Leverkusen's third, before Daniel Bierofka wrapped up the win in the 72nd minute.

Dortmund second
BV Borussia Dortmund remained two points behind Leverkusen in second place thanks to a 3-1 home win against TSV 1860 München, with Brazilian forward Marcio Amoroso scoring twice in the first eleven minutes of the second half. Jan Koller's third five minutes later confirmed the result, although Francis Kioyo did pull one back in the closing minutes.

Makaay misses out
FC Bayern München joined Dortmund on seven points with a 2-0 victory at home to VfL Bochum 1848, with Dutch international striker Roy Makaay unable to find the target for Bayern on his Bundesliga debut following his €18.75m transfer.

Quick strikes
Two goals in six first-half minutes from Claudio Pizarro and Sebastian Deisler gave the home team all three points. Makaay did have a golden opportunity to open his account for Bayern in the 74th minute, only to shoot straight at Bochum goalkeeper Reim van Duijnhoven.

Single-goal successes
SV Werder Bremen moved fourth in the table with a 1-0 win at 1. FC Kaiserslautern, while VfB Stuttgart secured an away victory by the same scoreline.

Three for Max
Martin Max scored a hat-trick as FC Hansa Rostock defeated bottom side Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0, while SC Freiburg earned a goalless draw away to Hertha BSC Berlin.
