Bayer 04 Leverkusen moved back to the top with a 1-0 win against Hamburger SV at the weekend.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen moved back to the top of the Bundesliga with a 1-0 home win against Hamburger SV, while previous leaders SV Werder Bremen dropped to fourth place in the table.

Juan joy
Brazilian defender Juan headed the only goal two minutes before the half-hour for Leverkusen, who climbed to the head of the standings on 12 points. Leverkusen moved one point ahead of VfB Stuttgart, who were held to a goalless draw at FC Schalke 04.

Bremen slip up
Bremen, meanwhile, slipped off the pace at they were defeated 2-1 at the Westfalenstadion by BV Borussia Dortmund, who moved above their opponents and into third place in front of a record crowd of 80,500. Brazilian striker Ewerthon gave the home side the lead in the 17th minute, but Bremen struck back four minutes before half-time as midfield player Krisztian Lisztes equalised. However, disaster struck for Bremen in the 69th minute, as French defender Valérien Ismaël scored the own goal that proved to be the difference between the two teams.

Bayern beaten
Champions FC Bayern München prepared for a new UEFA Champions League season in the worst possible way as they were defeated 3-2 at VfL Wolfsburg. Fernando Baiano gave the home side an eleventh-minute lead, but two goals in ten minutes early in the second half, from Bastian Schweinsteiger and Roy Makaay, seemed to have turned the match in the away side's favour. However, Baiano scored his second to bring Wolfsburg level with seven minute remaining, before Diego Klimowicz scored the winner a minute from the end.

Late winner
TSV 1860 München also needed a late winner, Paul Agostino scoring in the 83rd minute to earn a 2-1 victory at home to 1. FC Köln. Francis Kioyo had given the home side an early lead, but Christian Springer's 61st-minute equaliser seemed to have earned Köln a point.

Hannover leave it late
An 80th-minute strike from Julian De Guzman earned Hannover 96 a 3-2 win at Hertha BSC Berlin, who had led 2-0 by the 21st minute thanks to two Fredi Bobic goals. However, Jan Simak halved the deficit five minutes later, and Kléber's equaliser midway through the second half paved the way for De Guzman's late effort.

Away win
VfL Bochum 1848 enjoyed a 2-0 success away to FC Hansa Rostock, with Vahid Hashemian opening the scoring two minutes into the second period before Bjani Gudjonsson wrapped up the points in the final minute, adding a second.

First win
On Sunday, Eintracht Frankfurt secured their first win of the campaign - a 2-0 success against VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach. The win was achieved thanks to a 17th-minute goal from Markus Kreuz and Henning Bürger's last-minute strike.

Hristov double
In the day's other game, 1. FC Kaiserslautern climbed off the foot of the table with a 2-2 draw against SC Freiburg, for whom Soumaila Coulibaly and Andres Zeyer were on target. Bulgaria midfielder Marian Hristov scored both goals for Kaiserslautern.
