RCD Espanyol central defender Toni Soldevilla faces eight weeks on the sidelines after cartilage surgery.

RCD Espanyol central defender Toni Soldevilla faces eight weeks out after it was confirmed he would need surgery to repair a torn cartilage.

Pre-season problems
Soldevilla's problems began during pre-season when he complained of sharp pains in his left knee. Following tests yesterday, medical experts concluded that the 24-year-old required an operation.

Eight weeks out
Soldevilla will undergo surgery once he has recovered from a bout of flu. He will be out of action for a minimum of eight weeks leaving Espanyol coach Javier Clemente the task of restructuring his defence. The 20-year-old Daniel Jarque is expected to fill the vacant central defensive slot while Soldevilla recovers.
