Article body
R. Standard de Liège signed two new internationals just before the transfer deadline in Belgium.
Third new face
After bringing back Emile Mpenza from German football last Friday, Standard have now signed Uruguay defender Gonzalo Sorondo from Internazionale FC and Croatia midfield player Miljenko Mumlec from NK Varteks. Sorondo has moved on a 12-month loan while Mumlec, 30, has a two-year contract.
Point to prove
Sorondo, 24, has struggled to break into the Inter lineup having joined them in the 2001/02 season. The central defender, who still has a contract at San Siro until June 2006, will link up with Standard after international duty this week.
De Bilde moves
Meanwhile, former Belgium striker Gilles De Bilde has joined K. Lierse SK from first division RSC Anderlecht until the end of the season. The 32-year-old had been training on his own for the past few weeks after falling out of favour at Anderlecht. "It will take me one to two months to get back in competitive shape," he said.
