Italy round-up: Chiesa strikes seal Siena success

Members

Former Italian international Enrico Chiesa scored a hat-trick as AC Siena beat Empoli FC 4-0.

Important win
The victory meant the home side climbed away from the bottom of the table, and now have four points from their three league matches so far this season.

Chiesa composed
Chiesa opened the scoring in the 25th minute, converting a penalty after Empoli defender Manuel Belleri had pushed Chiesa's strike partner, Nicola Ventola, inside the area.

Second penalty
Empoli threw more men forward in search of an equaliser, but left themselves vulnerable to swift counterattacks and fell further behind on the stroke of half-time. Ventola was brought down by Luci Bucci as he bore down on goal, earning another spot-kick and a red card for the Empoli goalkeeper. Chiesa kept his composure to double his side's lead with the resulting penalty.

Decisive third
Chiesa effectively wrapped up the points when he completed his hat-trick a minute past the hour, as the former S.S. Lazio, AC Fiorentina and Parma AC forward had the strength to hold off a defender before turning to hit a right-foot shot into the corner of the net.

Flo fourth
Norwegian striker Tore Andre Flo completed the win six minutes later when he added a fourth goal.

Top two meet
Saturday's late game sees Ancona Calcio play Modena FC. On Sunday, leaders AS Roma travel to second-placed Juventus FC, while Lazio are at home to Parma and AC Milan visit AC Perugia. Internazionale FC take on another promoted side, Sampdoria UC.
