Paul Doolin has moved from one Irish Premier Division club to another after leaving his post as manager of University College Dublin FC to take charge at Drogheda United FC.
McCue departure
The 40-year-old was midway through his third season at UCD, who are bottom of the table at present. When the chance came to manage Drogheda, who dismissed Harry McCue last week, Doolin jumped at the chance, even though seventh-placed Drogheda are also in relegation danger.
'Ambitions to progress'
"The club impressed me with their plans for the future," said Doolin, who becomes the first full-time manager in Drogheda's history. "They have ambitions to progress on and off the pitch, and I thought it was a good opportunity. There are a number of full-time players at the club and the board have offered me the job on a full-time basis."
First match
Doolin will lead his new side for the first time on Saturday when he faces another former club, Bohemian FC, in the quarter-finals of the FAI Cup. Meanwhile, UCD have asked coach Theo Dunne and his son Tommy, their Under-21 team manager, to take charge of the team on a short-term basis before making a permanent appointment.
