Turkey round-up: Besiktas stay in charge

Members

Besiktas JK held on to top spot despite failing to score against Istanbulspor AS.

Bolic equaliser
The visitors, who dropped their first points of the season, opened the scoring five minutes before the break in a match played on Saturday. Ilhan Mansiz buried from close range when Istanbulspor goalkeeper Oguz Daglaroglu was unable to gather a header from Ahmed Hassan.

Dominant force
Istanbulspor, however, were the dominant force and fashioned enough chances to collect all three points. Elvir Bolic did at least manage to get one shot on target, volleying in Musa Kus's cross from inside the box for the leveller.

Derby draw
On Sunday, the eagerly-awaited Istanbul derby between Galatasaray SK and Fenerbahçe SK finished in a 2-2 draw at the Atatürk Olympic stadium. A header from Kemal Aslan gave the away team the lead but Arif Erdem ensured it was shortlived, converting Elvir Baljic's left-wing cross.

Prates own goal
Dutch striker Pierre van Hooijdonk made it 2-1 early in the second half but Fener, now third in the standings, were again unable to hold on after Portuguese international Cesar Prates' long shot hit team mate Hakan Sükür's head and found its way into the net.

Morale boost
Gençlerbirligi SK gave themselves a morale boost ahead of Wednesday's UEFA Cup first-round match against Blackburn Rovers FC by seeing off Konyaspor 4-0. Two goals from Mustafa Özkan and strikes from Deniz Baris and Souleymane Youla capped a convincing performance.

Home form
Malatyaspor continued their impressive run at home, where they are unbeaten this season, by sneaking past MKE Ankaragücü 1-0. Striker Atilla Birlik's 57th-minute penalty proved the difference between the sides. Gaziantepspor overcame JK Adanaspor by the same result thanks to a 28th-minute winner from Hasan Özer.

Perfect return
Trabzonspor edged out Samsunspor 2-1 on Friday. Serkan Aykut gave the visitors the lead from the spot ten minutes after the interval but two goals inside five minutes from Fatih Tekke - who returned after a five-game suspension - turned the match on its head.

Dugut leveller
Elazigspor and Rizespor battled out a 1-1 draw. Okan Öztürk headed in a Zafer Demiray centre just after the half hour for the opener and the home team salvaged a point courtesy of a last-minute effort from Haci Arif Durgut.

Bursaspor woe
Bottom-placed Bursaspor were swept aside 4-0 by Denizlispor and remain the only top-flight club yet to record a win. Ersen Martin was twice on target while Roman Kratochvil and Ömer Riza were the other names on the scoresheet. A goal from Claude Bakadal was enough for Diyarbakirspor to defeat Akçaabat Sebatspor 1-0.
