Work permit granted
Roque Junior completed his loan move from the UEFA Champions League holders to Elland Road when he was granted a British work permit. The 26-year-old, who has signed a one-year contract, had a work permit denied initially because he has not made the statutory 75 per cent international appearances since last year when he helped Brazil win their fifth World Cup in Korea/Japan.
Search continues
Dalmat has also left the city of Milan for the Premiership after joining Spurs on loan for the season. Manager Glenn Hoddle said of the 24-year-old French international midfield player: "He's a good footballer. We've been looking for a certain style of midfielder and I think we're still going to have to search for that in the winter window." Tottenham also landed Charlton Athletic FC defender Paul Konchesky on loan for a month, with Chris Perry going in the opposite direction.
Srnicek returns
Portsmouth FC have continued to build with the addition of Czech goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek, who returns to England after two seasons in Italy with Brescia Calcio. The 34-year-old will compete for a first-team place with his former Newcastle United FC team-mate Shaka Hislop. Meanwhile, Wolverhampton Wanderers FC signed Moroccan midfield player Hassan Kachloul from Aston Villa FC until January.
'Great honour'
Following the start of the Spanish Primera División season at the weekend, a number of clubs have been strengthening their squads. Not least Club Atlético de Madrid who presented Gonzalo De los Santos and Diego Rivas at the Vicente Calderón. The 27-year old Uruguayan midfield player De los Santos, who signed on loan for a year from Valencia CF, said: "Atlético are the third biggest club in Spain and it's a great honour for me to play here." Rivas, 23, spent last season on loan at Getafe CF.
Valencia departures
Two other players have also left Valencia. Salva Ballesta, brought to the Mestalla in an €11m summer 2001 deal from Atlético which took striker Diego Alonso the other way, has joined Málaga CF on loan for the season. Ironically, he will link up with Alonso at La Rosaleda after he was also loaned from Valencia to Málaga last week. Pablo Redondo, who played for Valencia's second team last season, scoring six goals, is to play on loan at top-flight Albacete Balompié.
Osasuna land Bakayoko
Club Atlético Osasuna have recruited the Ivory Coast striker Ibrahima Bakayoko from Olympique de Marseille on a two-year contract for an undisclosed fee. Bakayoko previously played for Montpellier Hérault SC and Everton FC. Osasuna have also reached an agreement with Córdoba CF for the loan of Gorka García, 28, while extending the contract of Gerardo Damián Rivero until 2005. Meanwhile, Kevin Bobson has become RCD Espanyol's seventh summer acquisition after moving on loan from NAC Breda.
German moves
In Germany, goalkeeper Claus Reitmaier has left VfL Wolfsburg to spend the rest of the Bundesliga season on loan at VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach. VfL Bochum 1848, one place above Mönchengladbach in 12th, have also signed the Brazilian defender Edu for 2003/04. He had played for Santos FC and Guarani FC in his homeland.
Fenerbahçe sign Petkov
Iceland defender Indridi Sigurdsson has joined Belgian side KRC Genk from Lilleström SK in Norway, while Erol Bulut returns to Turkey with Bursaspor after a spell at Greek club Panionios GS. Finally, Fenerbahçe SK have closed the transfer window with the signing of Bulgarian international Ivaylo Petkov from Istanbulspor AS on a two-year deal with an option for a further year.
