Porto bounce back
Porto suffered an early setback at struggling Vitória, falling behind to Romeu's goal on five minutes. But the home side's ascendancy was short-lived. Porto striker Derlei headed in a Nuno Valente cross soon after, and then, having seen a Vitória goal ruled out for a foul, the visitors secured the points with Costinha's strike eleven minutes from time.
Marítimo defeat
Meanwhile, Marítimo suffered a first seasonal defeat against Estrela. Brazilian forward Miran scored the only goal after 15 minutes, converting at the second attempt after Marítimo keeper Marcos had parried his initial effort.
Boavista boost
Elsewhere, third-placed Boavista FC claimed a 2-1 victory at Rio Ave FC on Friday, with goals from Fary Faye and Éder sandwiching a Vandinho Almeida effort. Os Belenenses SDF moved into fourth place with a 1-0 win at AA Coimbra, courtesy of Henri Antchouet's late strike. Meanwhile, goals from Kingsley and Juninho Petrolina gave fifth-placed SC Beira-Mar a 2-0 success at SC Braga.
Away win for Alverca
Alverca Futebol SAD climbed above Braga into sixth place with a 3-0 triumph at FC Paços de Ferreira. Rodolfo Lima, Ricardo Ramires and Miguel Vargas were the scorers. Moreirense FC lost 2-1 at UD Leiria despite taking an early lead through José Carlos Lima. Luís Bilro was the hero with a goal deep into added time after Maciel had equalised for the home side.
Hero to villain
Tiago scored the only goal of SL Benfica's home win against CD Nacional, but was sent off eleven minutes from time, while Sporting Clube de Portugal have the chance to move level on points with Boavista on Monday night when they take on Gil Vicente FC.
