Racing clear
Last year’s runners up have opened up a four-point lead over champions Club Brugge KV and are now unbeaten after five games. Korean forward Ki-Hyeon Seol opened the scoring in the 19th minute and, after two own goals boosted their advantage, the Brussels team took control. A perfect ball by Ivorian striker Aruna Dindane set up Croatian Ivica Mornar to score before Marc Hendrikx added the fifth and Dindane completed the rout.
Brugge held
Club Brugge, meanwhile, were held to a 1-1 draw at home by KAA Gent. The hosts, who remain in second spot, took the lead when Belgian international Philippe Clement slammed in after 39 minutes. It seemed certain they would take all three points but Miljan Mrdakovic snatched a draw with his 87th-minute leveller.
Genk third
KRC Genk moved into third place after defeating R. Standard de Liège 2-0 away on Sunday. The visitors set the pace early on as midfield player Koen Daerden drove in after eight minutes. They were nevertheless forced to endure a tense finish before Theo Janssen settled matters a minute from time.
Easy win
R. Excelsior Mouscron strolled to a 4-0 victory over Cercle Brugge KSV to collect their first win of the season. Polish striker Marcin Zewlakow initiated proceedings in the 12th minute and a superb shot from Steve Dugardein had them 2-0 up at the break. Christophe Gregoire added the third and Luigi Pieroni rounded off the win.
