Europe's Olympic berths filled

Germany and Sweden have made the Olympic Games women's football tournament - but not Norway.

Places confirmed
The two nations have confirmed their places at the ten-team event next summer by being the two best-performing European countries in the United States. Germany and Sweden will contest the Women's World Cup final in Carson, California on 12 October after semi-final victories this weekend against the US and Canada respectively.

Olympic experience
Sweden also competed at the Olympics in Atlanta in 1996 and Sydney in 2000, while Germany were bronze-medallists at the latter tournament. But Norway, gold medallists four years ago, will not go to Athens as they were beaten by the US in the Women's World Cup quarter-finals. The third European team at the Olympics will be Greece, who qualify as hosts and will play at this level for the first time.
