Resignation accepted
Livingston chairman Dominic Keane confirmed that the club had accepted the trainer's resignation, saying: "Despite numerous meetings between myself and Marcio, when I made every effort to convince him to stay, I am left with no option but to respect that decision - difficult as it has proved to be.
'Personal reasons'
"I sympathise fully with the personal reasons which prompted Marcio's request to be allowed to leave, and I have assured Marcio that those reasons will remain a private matter between ourselves."
Brazilian first
Barcellos, 40, had become the first Brazilian manager in British football when he was appointed in June, replacing Jim Leishman who moved upstairs into a chief executive's role before eventually leaving for Dunfermline Athletic FC.
'Great support'
He said: "I would like to offer my gratitude to the Livingston fans - they have afforded me fantastic support and I hope that my successor will continue benefit from their support." Barcellos is due to return to Brazil this week. He leaves Livingston in eighth place in the Premier League with nine points from eight matches.
