Three more doubtful
The German international midfield player will join club captain Dick van Burik on the sidelines while defender Arne Friedrich and Andreas Neuendorf are both doubtful. Hertha coach Huub Stevens has been told that he has two matches to claim a first victory of the season or he faces being dismissed.
Frankfurt duo out
Fellow Bundesliga strugglers Eintracht Frankfurt have injury problems of their own with the news that striker Markus Beierle is set for a month out after damaging ligaments in his right knee. Croatian central defender Jurica Puljiz has only just started jogging after suffering a similar knock.
Kanouté injury mystery
Tottenham Hotspur FC striker Frédéric Kanouté damaged ankle ligaments at the weekend but the club still do not know how long the Frenchman will take to recover. "He has a badly bruised ankle with slight ligament damage," acting manager David Pleat told the club's website. "Until it settles down we cannot look any further forward and say for certain that he will be out for a specific period of time." The player's agent had said he would need two months on the sidelines.
Pennant extends stay
Meanwhile, Tottenham's Premiership rivals Leeds United AFC have extended the loan period of Arsenal FC winger Jermaine Pennant by one more month. The London club confirmed the news before their UEFA Champions League defeat at FC Dynamo Kyiv. Pennant joined Leeds in August on a two-month loan.
