Article body
A sensational free-kick from Arsenal FC's Thierry Henry rescued a draw against Charlton Athletic FC and helped Arsène Wenger's team climb back to the top of the Premiership on Sunday.
One point clear
The French international striker's curling effort from the edge of the area restored parity shortly before half-time following Paolo Di Canio's delightful chipped penalty midway through the first half. With no further goals, the point took Arsenal clear of overnight leaders Chelsea FC at the top - and two points ahead of title holders Manchester United FC.
Audacious penalty
Wenger's men made a stuttering start to the game and found themselves behind on 27 minutes after Lauren was penalised for a foul in the box on Charlton midfield player Matthew Holland. Di Canio stepped up and audaciously clipped the spot-kick softly over Jens Lehmann to put the home side ahead.
Outstanding strike
Arsenal visibly upped the tempo and went close to finding an instant equaliser when the outstanding Henry cut inside from the right and launched a venomous left-footed effort which struck Charlton goalkeeper Dean Kiely's far post. But Henry was not to be denied and when Scott Parker fouled Ray Parlour on the edge of the area, the striker curled the ball into the top corner to earn a precious point.
Goalless draw
In the day's other game, Tottenham Hotspur FC were held to a goalless draw by Middlesbrough FC at White Hart Lane. Tottenham remain in 12th position, but a point enabled the visitors to climb out of the relegation zone, moving them up two places to 17th on goal difference.
