Operation needed
The 26-year-old is to undergo surgery on a groin injury which has dogged him in recent weeks. Saarinen, a €600,000 summer signing from Rosenborg BK, will have the operation later this week. He has made nine first-team appearances so far this season.
Hertha appointment
Michael Preetz will become the new sporting director at Hertha BSC Berlin in January. The 36-year-old former German international spent seven years with Hertha as a player before retiring last summer. Hertha board member Wolfgang Holst said: "If Michael Preetz can help, it will be good for us."
NEC injury
NEC Nijmegen midfield player Mike Zonneveld is likely to be sidelined until after the winter break in the Netherlands. The 23-year-old faces exploratory surgery on a meniscus problem in his left leg, which could keep him out of action until January at the earliest.
