New coaches for Portuguese pair

Members

CF Os Belenenses and Gil Vicente FC have appointed new coaches to boost their campaigns in the SuperLiga.

All change
Belenenses parted company with Manuel José over the weekend and he was not involved in the 2-0 Portuguese Cup defeat of CD Das Aves. José has reportedly accepted a lucrative offer to return to Egyptian side Al-Ahly. Former Yugoslavian international Vladislav Bogicevic, who assisted Vujadin Boskov at the 1998 FIFA World Cup, is the new man in charge.

European ambition
"My goal is to guide Belenenses to a position near the top of the table, so the team can play in European competition next season," the 53-year-old Bogicevic said. "It is a big club with great tradition. We have to do whatever it takes for the club to reach that level."

Ruca rewarded
Meanwhile, Gil Vicente have moved swiftly to replace Mário Reis, who was sacked earlier this month, with Raul Machado, better known as Ruca. The new man has acted as assistant to three different coaches in recent years. However, Ruca failed to have an immediate impact as Gil Vicente were surprisingly beaten 2-0 by third-tier side AD Sanjoanense in the Portuguese Cup.
