Çalimbay answers Ankaragücü call

MKE Ankaragücü have appointed Riza Çalimbay as their new coach following the resignation of Tevfik Lav.

'Very good players'
The former Denizlispor coach will sign a one-and-a-half year contract with the capital team, where he has already held his first training session. "My first impressions are that there are very good players at the club," Çalimbay said.

First choice
His predecessor Lav resigned after a disappointing run of results, and Çalimbay is understood to have been Ankaragücü's first-choice replacement. Club president Cemal Aydin said: "He was the first coach we talked about and after a board meeting, we quickly decided that he should be our new coach."

Derby debuts
Çalimbay's assistant will be Gökhan Keskin, and the new management team will make their debuts in next week's Ankara derby against Gençlerbirligi SK.
