Blackburn cruise
The home side were cruising after 13 minutes thanks to headed goals from defender Markus Babbel and striker Dwight Yorke. However, Everton were invigorated by the half-time introduction of Scotland winger James McFadden. His cross enabled Tomasz Radzinski to reduce the deficit with a free header after Brad Friedel palmed the ball into his path on 49 minutes.
Unsworth close
Everton defender David Unsworth, another second-half replacement, went close to equalising in the dying minutes but fired the ball over the crossbar from close range. Rovers hung on for the win which lifted them out of the relegation zone.
Everton drop
Everton, who have collected only two points from their last five games, sink into the bottom three, level on ten points with Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and two ahead of bottom club Leeds United AFC.
