Reis reign brought to an end

Members

Portuguese side Gil Vicente FC have dismissed coach Mário Reis eleven games into the SuperLiga season.

Unhappy return
Reis took charge in the summer after Gil Vicente failed to agree a new contract with previous coach Vítor Oliveira. However, it was not to be a happy return for Reis – who had led the club in the 1980s – as the team won only three matches during a poor start to the campaign to lie 13th in the table.

'Bad results and performances'
Gil Vicente president Abílio Martins said: "This decision is not only due to bad results, but also to the team's bad performances generally." Reis was fired after Friday's goalless draw with CF Os Belenenses, with his assistant Ruca handed the reins until a permanent replacement can be found.
