Dundee FC have axed 20 players and staff as they try and reduce a €28.8m debt and stave off the threat of closure.

Shown the door
Former Italian international Fabrizio Ravanelli and Scotland midfield player Craig Burley, both of whom only joined the club in September, head the list of contracted players and coaches shown the door by the troubled Scottish Premier League side.

Big names sacrificed
Argentinians Fabián Caballero and Juan Sara have also been told to leave, along with Georgian international Georgi Nemsadze as the 110-year-old club bids to stave off closure.

Other casualties
Beto Carranza, Mark Robertson, Jamie Langfield, Tom Cowan, Gavin Beith, Chris Brash, Colin Boylan, Robbie Raeside, Kenny Cameron, Kevin Lee, Javier Artero, Paul Mathers, Matt Engele, Steve Vander Deyl and Barry Forbes are the other playing and coaching casualties.

Club statement
A club statement read: "Dundee Football Club regrets to inform that 20 football staff today lost their jobs in consequence of the club's move into administration. The players and backroom staff were told of the decision by manager Jim Duffy and director Jim Connor in meetings at Dens Park today."

Placed in administration
Dundee were placed in administration on Monday at the request of owners Jimmy and Peter Marr with the club losing around €140,000 a week and unable to pay creditors.
